The Dachstein - a true mountain personality
The Dachstein - always a place of longing for alpinists - is not "just" a mountain, but with its 2,995 meters a true mountain personality in the Austrian Alps. In 1969, the Dachstein glacier was opened up to tourists for the first time with the Dachstein Südwandbahn cable car. A new era began in 2024 with the reopening of the completely renovated and modernized mountain station.
Many new attractions
In addition to the popular Ice Palacethe Sky Walk, the suspension bridge and the Stairway to Nothingness newly created viewing platforms around the mountain station invite you to enjoy pure freedom:
- Dachstein ladder to heaven12 steps lead up to a glass platform, from where a breathtaking view of the Dachstein opens up.
- The "Energy Crystal" art object near the mountain station
- Insta-worthy engagement spot for the perfect selfie with a view of the Dachstein
- Digital binoculars with a view of the Koppenkarstein in the brand-new glacier restaurant

A true energy crystal
The completely renovated Dachstein Südwandbahn mountain station at 2,700 m above sea level focuses on sustainability and energy efficiency with a 125 KWp photovoltaic system. The photovoltaic glass façade covers 1,000 m2 and ensures that 80% of the energy required for the mountain station is generated in-house.
And the best thing?
The Dachstein Glacier Lift is easy to reach from the Hotel Ramsauhof. You can either drive about 15 minutes via the Dachstein in your own car or you can easily opt for the public bus. The bus stop is just a 5-minute walk away.
